🧠 Quote Of The Week
“Life can only be understood backwards; but it must be lived forwards.”
— Søren Kierkegaard

🍿 FTX on Netflix
Netflix has dropped the trailer for The Altruists, an eight-part drama about the collapse of FTX, which premieres on 19 November.
Anthony Boyle plays Sam Bankman-Fried and Julia Garner plays Caroline Ellison, with Netflix billing the pair as “Gen Z’s own Bonnie & Clyde”. The series covers the roughly $8 billion of customer money that vanished when the exchange imploded in 2022.
Bankman-Fried is serving 25 years after losing his appeal in June.

🎣 The Catch of a Lifetime
Block took Bitcoin to ComplexCon in Los Angeles last weekend, where one attendee won a whole coin worth around $85,000.
Cash App's "Lightning Lake" fishing game paid players small amounts of Bitcoin they could spend on the spot. Block says the aim was to take people from never using Bitcoin to paying with it in one lap of the lake.
Not a bad catch for an afternoon.

🪶 Robinhood Joins the Hodlers
Robinhood has added $25 million of Bitcoin to its balance sheet, with crypto chief Johann Kerbrat saying: “We care deeply about Bitcoin and the ecosystem around it.”
Kerbrat admitted the sum is small for a company valued at around $100 billion, framing the purchase as a statement of commitment rather than a bet to move the dial.
28 million funded accounts can buy Bitcoin on Robinhood. Now the company holds some too.

🤝 Buying Businesses, Stacking Bitcoin
UK-listed recruiter Connecting Excellence (XCE) has completed its first acquisition, buying Glasgow's James Gray Recruitment and James Gray Engineering.
The deal nearly doubles pro forma group revenue to around £3.63m. It also brings the targets' 8.216 BTC onto XCE's books, lifting the treasury to 81.157 BTC, worth about £5.25m. A Bitcoin-backed credit line from custodian BitGo helped fund it, leaving net cash out at completion of roughly £150,000.
They have grown the business, grown the stack and increased Bitcoin per share by 2.5%.

🇿🇦 South Africa's First Domino Falls
South African lender Absa has become the first African bank to custody Bitcoin, launching a service for institutional clients.
The Johannesburg-based bank will hold Bitcoin and other digital assets for clients, with head of digital assets Rob Downes expecting Bitcoin to be the biggest by far.
South Africa already ranks second in Sub-Saharan Africa for on-chain activity, with $36 billion recorded in Chainalysis’s latest rankings.

☕️ The 270-Year-Old Coffee Company That Now Accepts Bitcoin
Pumphreys Coffee was founded in the 1750s. It has been in Stuart's family since 1979, four generations have worked in it, and his first Bitcoin transaction is framed on the wall downstairs.
Jordan Walker travelled up to Blaydon, just outside Newcastle, to see the roastery, watch beans go through an open flame, and talk to Stuart about what it takes to build something that outlives you.
