🧠 Quote Of The Week

“Responsibility is the price of freedom.”

— Elbert Hubbard

🎃 Hardware Wallet Horror Show

Two more hardware wallet makers have been hit by security scares this week.

Anyone who bought from CryptoBilis should move their funds to a new wallet. Buy direct from the maker, check the seal and think carefully about how you store your Bitcoin.

🚨 The Biggest Hack Ever?

Binance has suspended withdrawals after a suspected $6.3 billion hack, potentially the largest crypto theft on record.

Binance traced the breach to an engineer’s compromised laptop, and analytics firms have linked the attackers to North Korea.

But nearly half the haul, around $3 billion, has already been frozen. Binance has pledged to cover all customer losses and expects withdrawals to resume by Sunday.

🎁 Being a Bitcoiner Has Its Perks

This week we launched The Marketplace, a hand-picked selection of discounts from UK businesses that care about Bitcoin.

Some accept Bitcoin already; others are still warming up to it. But however you pay, you still get the full discount for backing them.

It’s free for all “In a Nutshell” readers at: https://bitcoincollective.co/marketplace

📈 Dividends That Stack Sats

Franklin Templeton has launched two ETFs that turn share dividends into Bitcoin, now trading on Nasdaq.

The flagship, FBEQ, tracks America’s 500 largest companies. Every cash dividend is reinvested into Bitcoin, with anything above a 5% Bitcoin slice trimmed back each quarter. Exposure comes through ETPs and futures rather than Bitcoin held directly. Fees are 0.09%.

Same old index fund, just picked up a Bitcoin habit.

🔑 Google Splits the Keys

Google has previewed a bank-grade custody tool for digital assets, with a commercial launch planned for early 2027.

Instead of one master key, the system splits it into pieces held by different parties, with a set number needed to approve any transfer. The full key never exists in one place.

Splitting keys is nothing new for Bitcoin holders. Now Google is bringing it to the banks.

🪲 Bugs at the Core

Bitcoin Core, the software most nodes on the network run, has disclosed and fixed three bugs, including one that could knock nodes offline.

The worst let attackers crash Windows, macOS and BSD nodes by flooding their memory. Linux nodes were unaffected. A second let a malicious node slowly bloat its peers’ memory, while a third, rated low risk, could corrupt some of a node’s stored data under extreme conditions.

If you run a node, update to Bitcoin Core 29.5, 30.4, 31.2 or 32.1.
