ALSO: Error: Unable To Send Payment, Britain Has a $5 Billion Bitcoin Stash. Sell it, Pet Rocks Are Cool; Design the Bitcoin Collective Merch

Happy Friday everyone, Jordan here, Founder of BC! 🎉 I’ve decided to introduce a new section to the newsletter, “BC Backstage.” This is where we share what we’re up to and give sneak peeks etc.

We want to build cool things that fix problems, your ideas and feedback help shape what we do. I had a problem this week that might resonate with you, read about it below.

This Week’s Big Stories

  • Error: Unable To Send Payment

  • Larry Says Look Again

  • Pet Rocks Are Cool

  • Britain Has a $5 Billion Bitcoin Stash. Sell it

🚨Error: Unable To Send Payment

A software update triggered a worldwide Microsoft IT outage today causing planes to ground and major issues with healthcare and banking.

This comes in the same week the Bank of England reported a payment issue, delaying high-value and time-sensitive payments.

It all highlights the reliance we have on a few central entities for our daily lives, money should not be one of these.

Bitcoin operated as normal throughout.

👀 Larry Says Look Again

Larry Fink, BlackRock CEO believes 'Everyone' should take another look at Bitcoin. In an interview this week, he states:

“I'm a major believer that there's a role for Bitcoin in portfolios ... I think there’s a great industrial use for it, and I think a lot of people are missing that.”

Eric Balchunas, Senior ETF Analyst for Bloomberg, came out saying “Hard to overstate how big a deal” this was that Larry is advocating so hard for Bitcoin.

👀 Pet Rocks Are Cool

"Tool for criminals", "decentralized Ponzi scheme", "a waste of time", and famously referred to it as a “pet rock” as it does nothing.

“Jamie Dimon was, you know, very negative and now all of a sudden he’s changed his tune a little bit," Trump told Bloomberg.

Why? Some are suggesting he’s been linked with the job of Secretary of the Treasury if Trump is elected.

🇬🇧Britain Has a $5 Billion Bitcoin Stash. Sell it.

The Labour chancellor should sell Britain’s seized Bitcoin to fund her economic plans according to a senior columnist for Bloomberg Opinion. It’s behind a paywall, if you can’t access it, I have summarised it below. FYI it’s a painful read🫣

Rachel Reeves, the UK's new Chancellor of the Exchequer, faces severe economic challenges. A potential resource is the UK’s Bitcoin holdings, seized from criminals like Jian Wen, now valued at around £3.9 billion.

Reeves should avoid the mistakes of Gordon Brown, who sold the UK's gold reserves at a low price, later criticised as gold's value soared. Bitcoin isn't an established asset class and is unlikely to become part of the Bank of England's reserves. It’s suggested Reeves sell the Bitcoin holdings to fund immediate needs but avoid signalling the sale prematurely to prevent driving prices down, as happened with Germany’s recent Bitcoin sales.

Additionally, easing crypto regulations could counter criticism from cryptocurrency enthusiasts and benefit the London Stock Exchange. Continued Bitcoin seizures from criminals could provide a recurring source of funds.

✌️ BC Backstage

Last week, I posted about wanting a t-shirt that wasn't plastered with Bitcoin logos. You know, something subtle and minimalist. So, I decided to make one myself and ordered five samples.

Here’s the twist: My flatmate, who’s not really into Bitcoin (he's dabbled but doesn't pay much attention), was in the garden with me as I tried on the samples. He loved them. He even asked if he could keep one and give me the money. That same evening, he wore it out.

That was the sign I needed. First, people into Bitcoin on X loved it from my post, and then someone not into Bitcoin wanted to buy one. This is exactly what I was shooting for and want our store to represent!

Now, we want to make more T-shirts and need your ideas. Reply to this email with your suggestions. If we like it, we'll design it, put it in our store (coming soon), and send you a couple of T-shirts as a thank you.

I took a detour home yesterday to get this…
