🧠 Quote Of The Week

"A rising tide lifts all boats."

— John F. Kennedy

💡 Making It Make Sense

Jack Dorsey's Block has launched its first-ever consumer ad campaign for Bitcoin, pitching it as everyday money rather than an investment.

The ads feature ordinary Americans talking about the cost of living, under the tagline "Some things don't make sense. Bitcoin does." They run until 31 December across YouTube, X, Instagram and Fox Sports, and on the big screen before Avengers: Doomsday and Dune 3.

Block's Bitcoin lead, Miles Suter, calls it the company's first major illustration of a Bitcoin-centric financial system.

🏠 A Mortgage for Bitcoin?

US start-up BTCNow has launched a way to buy Bitcoin at today's price and pay for it over five years.

The price is fixed on day one and split into 60 equal monthly payments. The coins sit in trust with custodian BitGo until the last payment clears, and a price fall can't trigger a margin call or forced sale. A US-wide rollout is planned over the coming months.

BTCNow hasn't published its fees. One analyst's maths puts a whole coin at around $122,800 over the term, about 47% above spot.

🔍 MSCI Leaves Its Tracks

The Bitcoin Policy Institute has accused MSCI of quietly rebuilding a plan to kick Bitcoin companies out of its indexes, and says a file name gave it away.

MSCI shelved a 2025 plan to exclude firms holding mostly digital assets after a backlash. This year it returned with a neutral-sounding rule for "non-operating companies", which would still remove Strategy and Metaplanet.

But the consultation PDF's hidden file data shows it was saved under "Projects/DATCOs/Operating vs Non Operating". DATCOs is short for digital asset treasury companies.

BPI asks whether the rule was built to classify companies fairly, or to reach the same exclusions by another route. MSCI decides on 16 October.

🤔 What’s a Bitcoin Account?

Chancellor John Healey has turned Bitcoin into a punchline, dismissing Nigel Farage as "Liz Truss with a Bitcoin account" at Labour's conference.

The jibe gets the basics wrong. There's no such thing as a Bitcoin account. Bitcoin is designed to be held directly, with no bank in the middle, which is rather the point of it.

This is the man whose Treasury oversees the UK's new crypto rules, which opened to applications the same week.

🔥 Kazakhstan Fires Up the Miners

Kazakhstan is opening its oil fields to Bitcoin miners, letting producers sell gas they would otherwise burn off.

Miners generate their own power at the wellhead, off the national grid. The local mining association puts the potential at 1.2 to 1.3 TWh a year. After China's 2021 ban, Kazakhstan briefly became the world's second-largest mining hub, until miners were using about 8% of the country's electricity and were squeezed out.
