🌎 A Force For Good

Save the Children and Fedi announced a groundbreaking collaboration aimed at revolutionising cash and voucher assistance (CVA) delivery to communities most impacted by inequality.

The joint initiative will launch in the Philippines and provide select communities with Bitcoin as part of community cash assistance via the Fedi mobile app. With the benefits of bitcoin communities will be empowered to determine for themselves the best use of their funds for immediate and long-term needs.

Antonia from Save The Children and Obi from Fedi met at our conference in Edinburgh. This partnership makes us extremely happy!

🎓 Bitcoin Research Institute

The University of Wyoming (UW) has established the UW Bitcoin Research Institute, marking the first academic institute dedicated to Bitcoin studies.

The institute aims to elevate the quality and impact of Bitcoin research by creating faculty positions for Bitcoin research, incentivising and rewarding good academic research on Bitcoin, encouraging young scholars to pursue Bitcoin research projects, and providing workshops on related papers and books.

⚡️ The Locust And The Dung Beetle

The 2024 Bitcoin Policy Report on the energy impacts of AI and Bitcoin mining was released this week.

Bitcoin miners talk a lot about their ability to turn machines off and back on in seconds. They talk about how “flexibility” is good for grids. But where’s the data? Do miners actually turn off their machines? How often? And if they do shut down, what are the effects?

Margot Paez and Troy Cross collected detailed power usage data from 10 Bitcoin miners in the US and Canada and found they curtailed 5-31% of the time.

Want a TL;DR? Here ya go.

🇺🇸 Strategic Bitcoin Reserve Legislation

Senator Cynthia Lummis officially introduced the Boosting Innovation, Technology and Competitiveness through Optimised Investment Nationwide (BITCOIN) Act in the U.S. Senate.

“As families across Wyoming struggle to keep up with soaring inflation rates and our national debt reaches new and unprecedented heights, it is time for us to take bold steps to create a brighter future for generations to come by creating a strategic Bitcoin reserve,” said Lummis.

✏️ Gridless Sketch

I saw this sketch about Gridless and thought it was really cool, so want to share it. Check it out here.

It reminded me of the story about the boy who used to get in trouble for doodling in school and got a job drawing on the wall of a restaurant. Nothing to do with Bitcoin but cool story nonetheless.

🍿 BC Backstage

Blogs go brrrrrrr. We’ve been banging out blogs for the past few weeks.

I was fed up with snooze-fest Bitcoin content. This is also one reason we built this newsletter and Genesis (our learning platform).

Education is key but only if it’s communicated in the right way. You should aim to make it edutainment (educational + entertaining) and I found a lot of Bitcoin content lacks the latter.

My goal is to have people in and out of Bitcoin going “Wow, I didn’t know that” when they read our content.

We’ve had a few guest writers so far. Please reach out to us if you would like to write something. We’d love to have more guest writers but my one ask is please… no snooze-fests😉

P.S. Our store is launching next week!🥳
