🧠 Quote Of The Week

“Whether you think you can or you think you can’t, you’re right.”

– Henry Ford

🇨🇭Switzerland Open Source

Switzerland has mandated all government software to be open source under the new "Federal Law on the Use of Electronic Means for the Fulfillment of Government Tasks" (EMBAG). This law requires public sector bodies to disclose software source codes unless restricted by third-party rights or security concerns.

It aims to enhance transparency, security, and efficiency, reduce vendor lock-in, lower IT costs, and foster innovation and collaboration within the public sector.

This is the way! More countries should embrace open source.

🚀 Fold going public

Fold, a Bitcoin financial services company, will go public via a merger with FTAC Emerald Acquisition Corp, becoming the first pure-play financial services firm powered by Bitcoin.

They announced this week that they hold over 1,000 bitcoins in its corporate treasury. Fold has processed over $2 billion in transactions and distributed $45 million in Bitcoin rewards since its inception in 2019. The deal values Fold at $365 million and is expected to close in Q4 2024.

📧 Protonmail Bitcoin Wallet

Proton, the company behind the encrypted email service ProtonMail, is launching its own non-custodial Bitcoin wallet called Proton Wallet. This new wallet aims to make Bitcoin transactions as simple as sending an email, enhancing user accessibility and security.

Proton Wallet is part of Proton's broader mission to provide privacy-focused financial services, leveraging their expertise in encryption and security to support the growing adoption of Bitcoin globally.

👵 Pension Funds Buying ETFs

Steven Fulop, mayor of Jersey City, New Jersey, announced Thursday that the city's pension fund will invest a percentage into Bitcoin ETFs.

This move reflects the growing trend of institutional adoption of Bitcoin, allowing the fund to gain exposure to Bitcoin price with the benefits from regulatory oversight.

⚡️ Stablecoins on Lightning

Saving the best until last…

Lightning Labs has released Taproot Assets on the Lightning Network, allowing assets like stablecoins to be minted on Bitcoin and transacted instantly with low fees.

“This step forward will give users access to the world's currencies on an open, interoperable payments network while routing through bitcoin liquidity, making bitcoin the global routing network for the internet of money. Together we are bitcoinizing the dollar, and the world's financial assets.”

A huge development for Bitcoin and Lightning.
