🧠 Quote Of The Week

“Nothing is so powerful as an idea whose time has come.”

— Victor Hugo

😳 Well... That Turned Fast

Bitcoin posted its best week since March, tearing through $76,000 as short sellers got run over.

More than $2.7 billion in shorts were liquidated in a single day, the largest wipeout since 2021, while spot Bitcoin ETFs pulled in $517 million on Wednesday alone, their strongest day since May.

The spark: the US Treasury doubling its long-bond buyback capacity to $4 billion, a White House sit-down where Trump pushed Congress to pass the Clarity Act, and the SEC's new "Regulation Crypto Assets" proposal, all landing within 48 hours of each other.

🔐 Citi Steps Into Custody

Citi confirmed it will go live with native Bitcoin custody for institutional clients later this year, built into a new platform called Custody+.

Bitcoin is the first digital asset on the list, held inside the same framework Citi already uses for equities and bonds rather than bolted on as a separate product.

The bank oversees roughly $24 trillion in client assets across more than 100 markets, and joins BNY Mellon, State Street and Standard Chartered in the growing list of major custodians building native Bitcoin infrastructure rather than routing exposure through ETFs.

🪒 Another Self-Custody Close Shave

Swiss hardware wallet maker BitBox says it has patched two "severe" firmware vulnerabilities before anyone lost a single satoshi, a rare piece of good news in a brutal month for self-custody.

One flaw could have tricked users into installing malicious firmware via a fake app; the other involved memory corruption on unconfigured devices. Unlike the ongoing Coldcard disaster, no seed migration is needed, just an update through the official BitBoxApp.

BitBox says it found the bugs itself, with AI-assisted internal audits, and has no reports of exploitation. Catching the flaw before it's exploited isn't luck, it's the whole point of taking security seriously.

🇮🇱 Israel’s Biggest Bank Opens the Door

Bank Leumi, Israel's largest lender, is set to become the country's first bank to let customers buy, hold and sell Bitcoin directly through its own banking app.

The service, built with Galaxy Digital on the GalaxyOne platform, will offer Bitcoin through Leumi's Trade app and its mobile arm PEPPER, with a target launch in early 2027. It's Leumi's second attempt, after a 2022 plan with Paxos was quietly shelved before launch.

The biggest bank in Israel just told its customers Bitcoin isn't going anywhere.

📉 Britain's £135 Billion Premium Bonds Delusion

This week, Jordan pulls apart a stat that should unsettle anyone holding Premium Bonds: 14.3 million people have held them and never won a single prize, not £25, not once.

23 million people hold £135 billion in Britain's most popular savings product, while the average prize winner sits on just £23,400. Zoom out and there's £610 billion in UK cash earning nothing at all, in the G7's lowest-investing country.
